The EpiAirway in vitro tissue model is used to determine the IC-75 value (concentration required to reduce tissue viability to 75% of vehicle control-treated tissues) of a test chemical.

The in vitro EpiOral (buccal) and EpiGingival (gingival) MTT ET-50 assay is used as a screen to assign expected irritancy responses compared to benchmark controls based on the time to toxicity (ET-50) results obtained with EpiOral and EpiGingival. This assay is also used to rank order oral formulations according to their irritation potential.
MatTek offers the EpiOral and EpiGingival buccal irritation tests as non-GLP services.

The EpiOcular Eye Irritation Test predicts the acute eye irritation potential of a topically applied chemical or formulation by measurement of its cytotoxic effect of the EpiOcular cornea epithelial model. This in vitro hazard assessment allows for the identification of chemicals (substances and mixtures) not requiring classification and labeling for eye irritation or serious eye damage in accordance with UN GHS.

The EpiDerm Phototoxicity Assay measures acute toxic response after exposure of skin to certain chemicals and subsequent exposure to light or that is induced similarly by skin irradiation after systemic administration of a chemical substance. The test is based upon a comparison of the cytotoxicity of a chemical when tested with and without additional exposure to a nontoxic dose of UVA + visible light and is accepted by the OECD as a stand-alone in vitro phototoxicity test.

The EpiDerm Skin Corrosion Test is able to reliably discriminate chemicals that are corrosive to skin from non-corrosive chemicals and can be used for the classification of skin corrosion hazard according to the GHS System adopted by the OECD.

The EpiDerm Skin Irritation Test was developed and designed to predict skin irritation potential of neat test substances in the context of identification and classification of skin irritation hazard according to the EU classification system (R 38 or no label) and the UN GHS system. The EpiDerm Skin Irritation Test allows for the discrimination between irritants of category 2 and non-irritants.
